  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • Combine the chopped dates, boiling water, and baking soda in a small bowl. Set aside to cool.
  • Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy in a large mixing bowl. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a separate bowl.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk. Stir until well combined.
  • Add the date mixture to the batter and stir until evenly distributed.
  • Pour the batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the pudding comes out clean.
  • While the pudding is baking, prepare the sauce by melting the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and cream, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved and smooth.
  • Remove the pudding from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes.
  • Poke holes all over the surface of the pudding with a fork.
  • Pour the warm sauce over the pudding and let it soak in for a few minutes.
